The Malleys
The Malleys were a dysfunctional family who lived in a small town in Texas. The family consisted of father Malley, mother Bess, and their four children: James, Kelly, Randy, and Tammy. Malley was a violent alcoholic who often beat his wife and children. Bess was a submissive woman who was unable to protect her family from Malley's abuse. The children were all troubled individuals who had been exposed to violence and abuse from a young age.
James Malley, the eldest son, was a cold and sadistic individual who enjoyed torturing and killing animals. He often bragged about his crimes to his siblings, who were both fascinated and terrified by him. Kelly Malley, the second son, was a follower who looked up to his older brother. He was often involved in James's crimes, but he was not as violent or sadistic. Randy Malley, the third son, was a quiet and withdrawn individual who often tried to avoid his family's problems. Tammy Malley, the youngest child, was a timid and insecure girl who was often bullied by her siblings.
The Murders
In 1984, the Malleys began to commit a series of murders. Their first victim was a young woman named Brenda Jones, who was hitchhiking in Texas. The Malleys picked her up and took her to their house, where they tortured and killed her. They then dumped her body in a ditch and fled the scene.
The Malleys' next victims were a couple named Joe and Margie Thornton. The Thorntons were camping in a state park when the Malleys attacked them. They shot Joe to death and then tortured Margie for several hours before killing her. The Malleys then stole the Thorntons' car and drove away.
The Malleys' third and final victims were a family of three named the Gillettes. The Gillettes were driving home from a vacation when the Malleys forced them off the road. They then shot the parents to death and kidnapped their two children, a boy and a girl. The Malleys took the children back to their house, where they tortured and killed them.
The Investigation
The Malleys' crimes horrified the people of Texas and sparked a massive manhunt. The police quickly identified the Malleys as suspects, but they were able to elude capture for several months. Finally, in 1985, the Malleys were arrested and charged with multiple counts of murder. However, the Malleys' desire for freedom and fear of the death penalty was strong. They used the legal system to delay their trial for years. Malley Sr. and Malley Jr. were sentenced to death in 1998, and Tammy Malley was sentenced to life in prison. Bess Malley was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Randy Malley was never charged with any crimes because the only evidence against him was an alleged statement by Malley Sr. that he helped dispose of the Gillettes' bodies.
The Aftermath
The Malleys' crimes had a profound impact on the state of Texas. The murders shocked the nation and made people realize that even the most seemingly normal families can be capable of great evil. The case also raised questions about the role of mental illness in violent crime and the need for better mental health services. The Malleys were eventually convicted and sentenced to life in prison, but their crimes continue to haunt the people of Texas to this day.
