In 2011, Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert launched Flashpoint, a DC Comics event that rewrote the history of the DC Universe. The event saw Barry Allen, the Flash, travel back in time to save his mother, inadvertently creating an alternate timeline where Thomas Wayne became Batman and Superman was a government prisoner.
Now, in 2024, Johns and Jeremy Adams will launch Flashpoint Beyond, a new event that will revisit the iconic Flashpoint event and explore its aftermath.
"Flashpoint Beyond is a chance to go back and explore what happened after Flashpoint," Johns said in an interview with CBR. "We're going to see what happened to the characters we left behind, and we're going to see how the world has changed in the years since."
One of the biggest changes in the post-Flashpoint universe is the absence of Barry Allen. In the Flashpoint timeline, Barry sacrificed himself to restore the original timeline. This means that the Flash is no longer around to protect the world from threats.
"The Flash is the heart of the DC Universe," Johns said. "He's the one who brings hope and optimism to the world. Without him, the world is a much darker place."
In the absence of the Flash, other heroes have stepped up to fill the void. Thomas Wayne Batman has become a more ruthless and violent vigilante, while Cyborg has taken on a more prominent role in the Justice League.
"We're going to see how these characters have changed in the years since Flashpoint," Johns said. "They've all been through a lot, and they're all dealing with their own demons."
One of the biggest challenges facing the post-Flash universe is the Reverse-Flash. The Reverse-Flash is a time-traveling villain who has been trying to destroy the Flash for years. In the Flashpoint timeline, the Reverse-Flash was able to kill Barry Allen and create his own timeline.
"The Reverse-Flash is the ultimate villain," Johns said. "He's the one who killed Barry Allen, and he's the one who created this alternate timeline. He's a constant threat, and he's always looking for a way to destroy the Flash."
Flashpoint Beyond will be a major event for DC Comics, and it will have a lasting impact on the DC Universe. The event will explore the possibilities and challenges of a post-Flash world, and it will introduce new characters and storylines that will shape the future of the DC Universe.
Here are some of the key questions that Flashpoint Beyond will answer:
* What happened to the characters we left behind in Flashpoint? * How has the world changed in the years since Flashpoint? * Who will step up to fill the void left by the Flash? * What is the Reverse-Flash's ultimate goal?
Flashpoint Beyond is a must-read for fans of the Flash and the DC Universe. The event will be full of action, adventure, and suspense, and it will leave readers guessing until the very end.
