Tostig's exile did not diminish his ambition or his desire for revenge. He joined forces with King Harald Hardrada of Norway and together they launched an invasion of England in 1066. The combined forces of Tostig and Hardrada met Harold's army at the Battle of Stamford Bridge. Despite being outnumbered, Harold's forces fought bravely, but they were ultimately defeated. Harold himself was killed in the battle, and the Norman invasion of England under Duke William of Normandy soon followed.

Earl Tostig's actions had a profound impact on the course of Anglo-Saxon history. His conflict with his brother Harold weakened the kingdom and made it more vulnerable to foreign invasion. The Norman Conquest that followed led to the end of Anglo-Saxon rule in England and the beginning of a new era in English history.
